Laser Therapy for Pets

Using light energy to safely reduce pain, inflammation, and infections in cats and dogs.

Laser therapy is just one form of human medicine useful in veterinary medicine. This modern treatment can help felines and canines recover from injuries, surgeries and chronic pain and even increase their flexibility. In many cases, cats and dogs have immediate improvement in their first treatment. Laser therapy is often used in conjunction with pain and anti-inflammatory medication or antibiotics. In some cases, it can be used as a treatment on its own.

How does laser therapy work on cats and dogs?

Laser therapy is used on humans and animals for the same reasons. There is little to no difference in how this treatment is carried out. A cold laser is aimed at problem areas on the body of your cat or dog. The laser produces and projects non-thermal photons of light energy deep into the tissue. The cells will absorb the light energy and produce more energy for cell growth and repair. As the cells regenerate, it reduces inflammation, increases circulation, and enhances the transport of immune system cells needed for fighting infection.

What happens during laser therapy for dogs and cats?

Our main goal during treatment is to safely provide relief for your cat or dog. A laser-safe room is prepared for the patient to ensure they will be comfortable during the session. A registered veterinary technician (RVT) will gently place protective eyewear on your loyal companion. We remove metal such as collars or harnesses if they may come in contact with the laser. After we have set up, we begin the treatment by gliding the handheld probe over specific problem areas. The session can last between 2-20 minutes, depending on how many areas need the treatment. Our team will establish a treatment schedule based on the condition of the patient. To learn how your cat or dog may benefit from laser therapy, please reach out to us at 905-332-4014.
