Rabies confirmed in Domestic Cat in Ancaster

In late August, the first local case of Rabies in a domestic cat in several decades was confirmed in rural Ancaster. Over the past year, Rabies cases have been increasing in wildlife in the Haldimand-Norfolk area. Over 100 cases of Rabies have been confirmed in animals in the Hamilton area including raccoons, bats and skunks. (See map below for locations of confirmed cases).
Please ensure that all of your pets are up to date on their Rabies vaccinations, and if your pet is in contact with any wild animals (bites or scratches) then contact a veterinarian immediately. If you observe any wild animals acting strangely then immediately contact Animal Services.
